Anaïs Castro

Anaïs Castro is an art critic and curator based in Berlin. She holds a BFA in Art History from Concordia University (2011) in and a Msc in Contemporary Art: History, Curating, Criticism from the University of Edinburgh (2012). She has worked as Kirsten Lloyd's Curatorial Assistant at Stills Scotland’s Centre for Photography, helping produced Allan Sekula: Ship of Fools and a group exhibition titled ECONOMY, with Hito Steyerl, Martha Rosler, Jeremy Deller, among others. In the past years, she has curated many exhibitions in Canada, the United Kingdom and Germany, including Porcelain: Breaking Tradition (2013), Monochrome3 (2014), Moving Still | Still Moving (2015) and #self (2016). Other recent projects include Mutation/Transformation/Metamorphosis in Berlin, Self-Abstractions at Canada House Gallery in London and The Tip of the Iceberg at Art Bermondsay Project Space, all in 2017. Her most current project in collaboration with Montreal-based curator Eunice Bélidor is titled Over My Black Body and was first presented at Spike Art Quarterly in Berlin last July 2018, with a second iteration planned at Galerie de l'UQAM in Montreal in May 2019. She was a curator-in-residence at Titanik in Finland in July 2017 and Visiting Curator at BCA in Burlington, Vermont in April 2016. Since August 2016, she has also been working as the Executive Director of Art Mûr Berlin, managing a program of 10 to 12 exhibitions per year.
