Wang Weiwei, curator, based in Shanghai, China
After having obtained her bachelor's in Korean Studies from Fudan University's College of Foreign Languages and Literatures in China and her master's from the Department of Archaeology and Art History in South Korea's Seoul National University, Wang Weiwei has garnered much experience as a curator of Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai. Since 2015, Wang initiated the MoCA Pavilion, the project space of MoCA Shanghai, which continues to serve as an experimental platform that showcases the artists' works from around China as well as abroad.
Wang Weiwei was co-curator of 12th Shanghai Biennale in Power Station of Art, Shanghai, China, 2018. And her recent exhibitions include Ballade --- Animamix Contemporary Art (co-curator, 2017) in Macao Museum of Art, Macao, and The Light that I Feel – Yang Fudong's Solo Exhibition (co-curator, 2016) in Daegu Art Museum in South Korea.
Wang Weiwei received the 2018 ACC (Asian Cultural Council) individual fellowship and now is conducting comparative researches on contemporary art ecosystems in East Asia. Wang also participated the Curator in Residency program in Kuandu Museum of Fine Art in Taipei (2017) and the International Research Fellowship program in Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea (2017).
11.19 Escape, Alternative and Generation: Drawing Experience From the Practice of Contemporary Art in East Asia
In the overview of an environment where relatively stereotyped, intricacy of levels, and stacked issues over the years, how artists, curators, and other related workers in East Asia transcend and challenge experiments and practices within the alternative art system, and it becomes an important practice of the perspective of "near to the future". Due to the complex and entangled historical background and international relations in East Asia; the rapid development of science and technology, economic and social changes; the disruptive lifestyles brought about by the Internet era, and the mutation in the thought system have made, and the observation of East Asian contemporary art always mixed. The speaker will combine her curatorial practices, and the observation in East Asia recent years, to sort out the perspective of contemporary art as a mirror to explore and refine the possibility of creating dialogue while looking for divergences in East Asian historical background and realistic environment.
