Jingxuan Zhang

I am Jingxuan Zhang, an editor and researcher at Urban China magazine based in Shanghai. I have a background in the intersection of architectural design and sociological research, concentrating on cultural and social issues behind the built environment.
I discovered my passion for architecture and urban studies at the College of Architecture & Urban Planning, Tongji University, where I earned a bachelor's degree in historic preservation. Then, in 2020, I earned a master's degree in Design Studies with a focus on Critical Conservation from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. During my graduate studies, I expanded my academic horizon on cultural geography and spatial politics, and explored how heritage was fabricated and consumed in the process of urban regeneration.
Before joining Urban China, I worked for the Chinese Historical Society of America, Position, and other cultural institutions. I have a strong interest in public arts and exhibitions, and my collaborative works were shown at SUSAS 2015, Harvard GSD, and Suzhou Design Week 2021. In the last two years, I spent most of my time delivering ideas and observations through articles, magazines, and exhibitions with my colleagues in Urban China. In the future, I hope to be a comprehensive curator in the domain of urban and architecture.
