The KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community) Garden is a triangular idle land of 2,200 square meters located between the old and new communities. Due to the important municipal pipelines buried underground, this land has not been fully utilized. In 2016, the government and enterprises cooperated to revitalize it. RuiAn Group was in charge of construction and management, who entrusted a third-party social organization Clover Hall to operate and maintain it. KIC Garden is the first community garden in Shanghai located in an open block. It is a positive product of corporate social responsibility, an innovative practice of government empowerment to enterprises and social organizations, as well as a typical case of communitybased participatory space initiated by social organizations in collaboration with communities.
