Liu Jianhua

Born in Ji'an,Jiangxi Province in 1962.Aftergraduating with a Fine Art of Sculpture major in1989, he started his experimental practices within acontemporary context.In 2008, he shifted his focus to “no meaning, no content”, which declared a fairlynew exploration and therefore has developed hisown system of expression for contemporary art. Liu Jianhua is one of China's best-known contemporaryartists who experiment with comprehensive materials As an artist who keeps exploring new directions in hisart, Liu Jianhua mainly used ceramics as the materialto create works in his early practices. Ceramics is sucha unique material that looks hard but is intrinsicallyfragile. Through such characters, Liu Jianhua createsa metaphor for modern people's obsession withand anxiety about consumption, which reveals thespiritual characteristic of modern society. With furtheexploration,Liu Jianhua has recently switched tomixed materials.Liu Jianhua has held several soloexhibitions in China and abroad.His works havebeen exhibited in the international art exhibition VIVAARTE VIVA of the 57th Venice Biennale, the 17thBiennale of Sydney, the 2nd Moscow Biennale ofContemporary Art, the 1st Singapore Biennale, the 6thShanghai Biennale. China Pavilion of the 50th VeniceBiennale, and his works are included in the permanentcollections ofinstitutions including Tate Modern_ondon, UK: The Victoria and Albert Museum, LondonUK: Museum of Modern Art (MOMA)New York,USSolomon R.
