Madalen Claire Benson

Madalen Claire Benson is a freelance Arts Professional from the West Coast of Canada. She holds a Master of Arts in Art History, Theory and Criticism from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts, Honours in Art History and Philosophy from the University of Toronto. She has published with the University of Cambridge and presented her research at conferences around the US and in the UK. In her work, Madalen seeks to interrogate the legacy of colonialism by examining the potential of anticolonial critique. Her interests also include environmentalism and activism.

Madalen uses the form of poetry to write autobiographical art criticism. She is also an artist that creates serial artworks to investigate notions of memory and place using analog photography. Madalen is the Vice-President on the Abbotsford Arts Council Board of Directors, and curates for Art @ YXT, an airport exhibition project in Terrace, British Columbia.
