Yu Ding

Dr. Yu Ding is professor, doctoral supervisor and Dean of the School of Arts Administration and Education and Director of the National Arts and Culture Policy Research Institute at Central Academy of Fine Arts. He founded the first visual arts management major in China and has been working on promoting the construction and development of the discipline in China. Prof. Yu also founded the Chinese Art Administration Education Association in which he serves as Vice President and Secretary General. His representative work Respect for Art: Visual Arts administration and Management in China and the United States is the first academic book that collates and compares the sectors of art institution management, cultural policy, cultural industry, museum and public art between China and the U.S. and the first book in English to spread overseas Chinese experience in the field of arts management. As an important expert and scholar in the field of arts management in China, Prof. Yu, entrusted by the Ministry of Culture (now the Ministry of Culture and Tourism) and other authorities, has curated and organized a series of important academic exchange activities as well as major events aiming at promoting Chinese art overseas.

11.15 Text Narration and Visual Narration - Application of Document Archives in Curation Practice

Literature and archives have exerted full intervention in the production, curating and dissemination of contemporary art. Over the last decade, investigations over literature and archives have formed an important embranchment in the studies of contemporary art and museological study of art history; meanwhile, curatorial application of archives has been significantly discussed within the field. By citing global cases of curatorial practices, this talk addresses the aforementioned issue from a narratological perspective by comparing textual and visual narrative methods in curating.
