My name is Rosanna and I'm an artist and curator from London. I have degrees in English Literature and Fine Art and have recently been working as a researcher and semiotician for a cultural insight and strategy agency. I studied Sculpture and Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art and subsequently worked as an artist and curator, exhibiting work in galleries such as the Royal Scottish Academy of Art, TRAMWAY in Glasgow and DRAF Studios, London. My own artwork took the form of site-specific sculptural installations and performance works that explored the relationship between body, object and space. Writing is a key component of my curatorial practice and I am interested in the interrogation of the conditions by which artworks are made and presented, specifically how the aesthetics and social contexts of a site might impact the type of work that comes to belong to that site.
Both my research and practical art making is concerned with the body as a primary site for understanding and where, in the encounter with artwork, rational forms of knowledge meet instinctive and intuitive thought. I think it's a really exciting time to be thinking about the development of Shanghai's art scene and I look forward to exploring, sharing ideas and collaborating with my fellow curators at the Shanghai Curators Lab.
